To Our Rising Stars Family,

August was a fun filled month for Rising Stars on and off the court. On the court, our boys and girls programs ran their annual basketball camps closing each session out with maximum enrollment. This summer marked the 21st year for the boy’s camp. Special guest Tobias Harris, NBA star and Long Island native, made an appearance. Tobias spoke to the children about the importance of hard work, not only on the court, but in the classroom. This is a value that Rising Stars stresses with all of it’s children.

With our new partnership with the NBPA, Rising Stars made it possible for four lucky boys to attend a very special basketball camp at Baruch College. This camp had NBA stars Andre Drummond, Tobias Harris, and Kemba Walker in attendance. This experience provided the children with life long memories!

Off the court, we launched our new website, www.risingstarsyouthfoundation.com. The new, beautifully designed and interactive website highlights the children in our program and all of the great things we do at Rising Stars. We are excited about the new website so please check it out!

Our RS Scholars continued to give back to their community by participating in “Supplies for Success” where they helped packed over 500 backpacks for those less fortunate. In addition, as a team, our 5th graders gave back to their community collecting school supplies and packing backpacks for the Copaigue School District. It was a job well done by all! It is always great to see our children participate in the community and make a commitment to be a part of something that helps others.

In September, we have some exciting events taking place! We will have our annual boy’s and girl’s tryouts, start our yearly training academies, and host a college parent night to educate our high school families on how to navigate through the college process.

In the fall, we will be launching additional community outreach teams for 5th, 6th, and 7th grade boys with our partner, the YMCA. We will also start our first girl’s outreach team for 7th grade as well. We have had tremendous success with this initiative by providing weekly tutoring, professional coaching and training, mandatory community service, and family memberships to the YMCA. This initiative has proven to impact and changes lives!

We will host our Annual Golf Outing Tuesday October 10th at Cherry Valley Country Club in Garden City. It’s always a great event so please come out and support the organization. You can find details below or visit here. With school starting, we are looking forward to another special and successful year!

The New Rising Stars Website

The Rising Stars Boy’s camp had another successful year! The boys showed their dedication and hard work while improving their game. NBA All-star and Long Island native, Tobias Harris, made a guest appearance and spoke with the campers about the importance of succeeding in the classroom as well as on the basketball court! The boys will be back at it again at our winter tryouts on September 10th!

This August marked the 4th year for the Rising Stars Girl’s Summer Camp and the players continue to impress us with their drive to improve and desire to compete.  We had a tremendous week with approximately 85 talented young women all making the sacrifice and commitment to help them become the player they want to be. We are so thankful for the support of our campers, many of whom return year after year.

Community Service

Summer is over and the kids are headed back to school. Our amazing RS Scholars made sure that kids in need started the year off right by volunteering for the Supplies for Success Program in NYC! Rising Stars and Supplies for Success believe that education is the recognized pathway out of poverty. Children should walk into school on the first day with hope, excitement, and with the tools they need to succeed. Our RS Scholars did their part as they assembled over 500 backpacks then packed them for delivery to schools, shelters and organizations where they will be distributed to kids in need.

More Community Service!

This past Friday, our rising 5th grade Outreach Team tapped into their charitable spirit to lend a hand to a back to school cause. Along with team parents, our boys collected school supplies and backpacks to donate to the Copaigue School District. In total they gathered and packed 38 backpacks to positively impact their community. Coach Wilson says, “I am very proud to be a coach to a team like this one and an organization that shares similar values.”

Newest RS Scholar

We would like to introduce our newest RS Scholar! Tyler earned a scholarship this month and started his junior year at Lawrence Woodmere Academy! In Tyler’s own words, “being on the Rising Stars Team has impacted me on and off the court, whether it was leaning life lessons, making sacrifices, leadership, and teamwork. I’m thankful to be on the Rising Stars Team because it gives me motivation and makes me work hard.” Good luck Tyler!

Our RS Scholars

It’s back to school time but before our RS Scholars went back, each cohort met for group discussions on their summer reading assignments. They also attended a workshop on time management followed by a group meeting where they shared their feelings about entering the next grade level. Being part of the RS Scholars TEAM means T (together) E (everyone) A (achieves) M (more)! Good luck at school to all of our RS Scholars and Student Athletes!

7th Annual Golf Outing
